Tree Planting at Waitahuna
Tree planting at Waitahuna
Room 4 and room 7 went tree planting at Waitahuna. We had a talk about keeping animals in the Waitahuna River safe. They had two stations an electric fishing and planting flaxes. First Room 4 went with a person named Glen and he told us how to plant the flax. We planted them around the river to help the eels to hide from predators in the Waitahuna River. The tree planting was fun because we got in different groups of three and started to plant trees while room 7 watched electric fishing. There were a lot of adults there so we got sent into groups of three with the adults and there were plants on the ground, so we just started doing the drill that we saw before. They had one thousand plants for us to plant. When it was almost time to swap over we had some morning tea.
Then we did the electric fishing with Keiran. First, he told us about his partner Angus then he showed us a long fin eel that he had caught that night with the traps in front of us. He also showed us some fish that you can only find in the Waitahuna River like the brown trout and the lamprey eel. The brown trout didn’t move much, but it did if we put our hands in. The lamprey eel really liked to move. Some people even touched it then he showed us how he got the long finned eel in this huge trap, which looked like a long net, with bait for the eels. Then he started talking about a machine that stunned the area so that they could catch the eels and try to explain to schools about how to help them. Then he showed us the machine he said stunned the water and tried to catch a fish but he couldn’t. He did stun an eel but couldn’t catch it. Keiran also said that he saw a trout. After that, we went to see a guy called Matt who talk to us like he did before. After his little talk, we went home to Lawrence.

Swimming fun
During swimming, we've been learning how to do freestyle and breathing. We have to say in our heads one-two-three-breathe, every time we do free style to me it's really helpful. We have also been working on doing back stroke you put your hands on the side of the pool and your push forward and push off. Then you kick and do circles with your arms but you have to do them on your back that's why it's called back stroke.

Athletics fun
We have been doing athletics at school and my favourite was when we did the high jump. I like high jump because you get to do a cool kind of jump called a scissor jump. A scissor jump is something when you jump and put one leg up then another like a scissor. I was sick on athletics day but I got to do the practices. We also did discus, which is a thing where you get a sort of flat disc and you put it in one hand. The other hand is on the opposite side, then you make your hand with the disc go to the other hand and clap it three times. Then you let the disc go. Next we did long jump which is like high jump but you have to jump across a pit of something we use saw dust. As the title says long jump you have to jump as long as you can.
